Hey Guys!

I know it’s been forever, but bop over to my new website, and let me know what you think! Once things settle down, I’ll be able to update more, but this semester I’ve had a senior art show to put together, artwork to finish, a design conference in Texas to attend, a Graphic Design Exit Review to plan for, and a waitressing job to juggle. WILD SEMESTER! But the great news is, on Friday I’ll be a graduate of Old Dominion University! FINALLY! YAY!

Wish me luck!

She lives!

Hey All!

I can’t believe I haven’t updated since November! It’s been a weird combination of busy and stagnant lately. I finished up last semester in December, had a nice holiday break, and got back to the grind in early January. I was selected to show in the Undergraduate Research Symposium last semester, and the actual show was two weeks ago. It was pretty successful if I may say so myself! I’ve also been working on a personal stationary system for my Graphic Class, and so far everything is looking good. I ordered my paper and stickers today, and I can’t wait to get started. I’m also taking a Lithography class and a second figure drawing tutorial. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some images posted of ongoing work soon. I’m graduating in May, so my life right now is completely insane. AH!

Wild About Baby Boy Weber!

I was recently contacted by an old friend in Arizona. She asked that I put together a pamphlet of games and trivia for her friend’s safari-themed baby shower and sent me pictures of the cake and such to get me started. Then she gave me free rein! The end result is adorable, and boy did I have a BLAST putting this ‘baby’ together!.(See what I did there? Ha!) And the best part? SHE OFFERED TO PAY ME, so I didn’t even have to have the awkward– “I know we are old friends, but this is my JOB and I need to be paid…” talk!

On a side note, I think I’m going to start doing some custom stationary on the side, so if you have any needs/ wants let me know! For my next project, I’m designing Wedding Stationary for a friend getting married in May. This is a great follow-up to Adeena’s Save The Dates from last month!

Have a great day all!

The Veil: A Theatre Poster

(continuation from previous post!)

So my second project for my Poster Design class was a Theatre Poster. My professor gave us a list of plays done in the past few years, and I chose ‘The Veil’ by Conor McPherson. During my research, I discovered that the play is set in Ireland in the 1800’s and centers around a young woman who is about to marry a wealthy man to reverse her family’s financial misfortunes. The bios I found were relatively vague, but I know two things. One, the young woman hears the voice of a child in the house she lives in. Whether it is hers or not, I could not find out. Second, two men (one of which I believe is a religious figure of sorts) come to the home to take her to her new husband. While they are there, a seance is performed. While this synopsis is very vague and clearly does NOT do justice to the play itself, this is what I based my design upon.

I drew this poster all by hand using my tablet. I wanted to depict an almost lifeless hand reaching out to grasp a small doll. The woman’s engagement ring is included, to portray her upcoming marriage. I wanted the copy of the poster to almost melt into the floorboards, and I used a very muted color palette to further suggest a lifeless, dreary environment. A little creepy if I may say so myself!

Room To Read: A Public Service Poster

Hey Guys!

Have ya’ll been outside? When did it get cold?! I’m taking advantage of this blustery, cold day to do some computer cleaning, backing up, and updating. And I also wanted to update my followers (and friends) on what I’ve been up to the past few weeks! I’m actually going to break up my updates into THREE posts. (Insert ooo’s and ahh’s here.)

My first post will focus on school. I would like to start off by saying that I registered for my very LAST semester of college yesterday, and it was a very scary feeling! In six months I’ll be who knows where, doing who knows what with my life. (I’m really hoping that the ‘where’ isn’t back in my parent’s house and the ‘what’ isn’t waitressing anymore, but hey– I’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it.) Now for the fun stuff… Pictures of my recent projects. I did two assignments recently for my Poster Design class, and  I’m pretty impressed with how they came out!

The first is a poster for a group called “Room to Read” that works with countries in Africa and Asia to teach/encourage kids to read. They also support young girls as they complete school and develop life skills they need to succeed in the world. Growing up, I ran a library out of my desk at school and kids would come to me to borrow books. Even now, my apartment is filled to the brim. If you couldn’t tell, reading is very important to me, so this project touched close to the heart.

I decided to go with the theme “Memories Coming to Life.” I included many of my favorite characters from books I read while growing up. I even threw in a few newer characters here and there. The beauty of this poster is that it appeals to all ages. Parents can look at this poster and remember the books that they read to their children and kids are attracted to its adventurous characters and bright colors. Hopefully this poster encourages people to step out and help this fantastic organization! www.roomtoread.org

Needed Design: A Waitress Rant

This gallery contains 9 photos.

Hey Ya’ll! I hope everyone is doing okay in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy! My area wasn’t hit too hard (other than some flooding), but I know other places up north were. Hopefully all is well! I’ve been working on … Continue reading

Inspirational Design

Hey All!

Isn’t this fall weather gorgeous?? I’m not going to lie– I’ve been a Pumpkin Spice Latte addict for almost a week now. Can’t get enough! This is just an update to show one of my more recent pieces. I’m in a Graphic Design Studio class this semester and we were given a VERY open-ended assignment. We were told to design something that represents things that inspire us. Well, I’ve been doing silly little doodles for years now (they are actually what led me towards art in the first place) so I combined doodles with some inspirational pieces of artwork/ design that I’ve run across in my past and created a poster. The works that are in frames are NOT mine. They are pieces I’ve found over the years that pushed me to where I am today. After two weeks of work, twelve STRAIGHT hours in front of my computer, a finger slice with an x-acto knife (followed by me passing out on top of my roommate), and an emergency drive to the printer’s to reprint my blood covered design… without further ado, I give you– MY WORK!

Have a great rest of your day!

Save the Dates!

I’ve always been fascinated by weddings, and I’ve been interested in wedding stationary for awhile now… save the dates, wedding invitations, all that sort of thing. My Pinterest is loaded with invites to other people’s weddings, and I’m sure my friends are starting to think I’ve run quite mad. A good friend of mine approached me a few months ago with a request that I design her save the dates. Seeing as we’ve been friends for so long, and I’ve been craving a project like this for awhile now, I accepted! After a few proofing sessions and back and forth work, we’ve finally come to the final design. They were ordered last night, and I think they’re pretty adorable. (Although that could just be because Chris and Adeena are so adorable themselves!) Adeena decided to go against the grain and send out coasters as opposed to the typical cards that many people send. I love her creativity, and her decision made the project ten times more fun! Here’s to you, Dee. May you and Chris live a long and happy life together, and I can’t wait to see you on your wedding day!

PLEASE NOTE: The images aren’t coming through as well as I’d like them to. I’m late for class though, so I’ll have to update them later! These files simply aren’t doing them justice!
